Dental braces are a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct teeth that are crowded, crooked, protruding, out of alignment or have irregular spacing. Braces are dental devices used to straighten crooked teeth and achieve proper alignment of the upper and lower jaws in order to improve the quality of smile or correct overbite or underbite.

Metal/Ceramic Braces

When dental braces are placed, a cheek retractor is used to keep the teeth visible and dry during the procedure. The teeth are first polished to ensure that the brackets will bond properly, after which they are air-dried.

A conditioner is used on the front surfaces of the teeth for 30 seconds to further prepare them for bonding the brackets. This is cleaned off, the teeth are dried, and an adhesive primer is placed on the teeth to enhance the bonding process.

Cement is placed on the back of the brackets, which are then applied to the predetermined positions on the teeth. Once the brackets are in place, excess cement is removed, and the brackets are hardened into place with a high-intensity light. The retractor is removed, and the dental arch wires are then put into place.

The entire process of bonding the brackets and placing the archwires can take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. The length of time is often determined by the time it takes to position the components correctly in order to treat the person’s specific condition.

At Jaipur Smiles, we use different kinds of braces like metal braces – with these braces the appliance is bonded to the teeth, nickel-titanium wire and elastics are used to bring the misaligned teeth into correct occlusion.

Ceramic braces – usually for adults, who are conscious of the metal on the teeth, prefer ceramic (tooth colored) braces.

Self-ligating brackets – this is a modern technique where there is no usage of rubber bands or metal tie wires to hold the arch wire on to the bracket. In this technique, the preferred level of force is delivered from the bracket to each tooth resulting in quick movement of the tooth in the desired direction.

Lingual braces – these are the braces placed behind (on to the inner aspect of) the teeth, and are therefore virtually invisible to other people.

Invisalign braces – these kinds are used for people who do not have severe problems. the braces consist of a series of strong plastic trays that are custom made, they are indeed invisible.
