Gum Contouring
In cosmetic dentistry, we have determined ratios of the length and width of teeth relative to one another. The low smile line (the edges of the teeth) is just as important as the high smile line (the line where the tooth meets the gum). There must be harmony between right and left sides, there must be a balance as to the geometry of the tooth so that the final restoration (ie porcelain veneer) fits and looks as if Mother Nature placed it herself.
Our Periodontist works in concert with our restorative dentists. He sets the stage for the proper design of the gingiva (gum) so that restorations like porcelain veneers or crowns can look their best. In the pictures below you can see beautifully restored smiles when the periodontist and cosmetic dentists work in harmony with one another. After cosmetic gum contouring was completed the teeth were restored with porcelain veneers or crowns.
